Spend the night in the castle? Strolling in the park? Schloss Leopoldskron offers endless possibilities to get to know this beautiful spot, Salzburg and its surroundings.
Leopoldskron Palace: A place of encounters - then and now
In 1918, Max Reinhardt, then Europe's most famous theater impresario and co-founder of the Salzburg Festival, bought the Baroque palace that had been built in 1736 by Archbishop Leopold von Firmian - a great lover of science and art. Reinhardt focused a great deal of creativity on remodeling the palace and, with the help of Salzburg craftsmen, renovated the Staircase, the Great Hall and the Marble Hall. The fantastic Library and the Venetian Room sprang from Reinhardt's creative mind, as did a wide variety of decorations in other rooms.
Today, Schloss Leopoldskron serves as the home of the international non-profit organization Salzburg Global Seminar and the Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron. To this day, the castle is not a museum but a house that is "lived in" and, together with the castle park, offers its guests an extraordinary experience, for example at the "Picnic in the Park". The park, whose garden parterre was redesigned in summer 2021, is exclusively accessible to hotel and seminar guests of Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron all year round.
Renovation with flair at Leopoldskron Palace
At the beginning of 2014, in a two-month renovation project, the entire Meierhof was modernized and redesigned. Then, with the start of 2018, the 12 historic suites underwent a major renovation, with great emphasis on preserving the unique atmosphere of the castle. The US star designer Ken Fulk is currently commissioned with the redesign of the Red Salon.
BIG SEE Interior Design Award and latest event technology
Much has also happened in the event space over the past two years: Comprehensively renovated in 2020 and equipped with the latest lighting and seminar technology as well as high-quality furniture, the Fellows Hall in the Meierhof - winner of the prestigious BIG SEE Interior Design Award in 2021 - offers a wide range of uses with its spacious floor plan and two window fronts on an area of 163 m2.
The Gallery was also completely renovated last year and made fully accessible again for the first time in the history of the castle since Laktanz Graf Firmian. This unique room on the third floor of the castle offers state-of-the-art technology as well as a majestic view of both the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Leopoldskroner Weiher and Untersberg mountains. In addition, there are three light-flooded seminar rooms in the castle, which are adjacent to each other and are suitable for groups of up to 40 people per room with a wide variety of seating options. For working groups, various other rooms are available, such as the Chinese Room, the Library or the Venetian Room.
Karl Lagerfeld & international guests from all over the world
The special character of Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron is appreciated by guests from all over the world, including, for example, Karl Lagerfeld, who transformed Schloss Leopoldskron into an opulent catwalk as part of his Métiers d'Art fashion show for CHANEL in November 2014. In the winter of 2022, a new film version of the Mozart opera "The Magic Flute" will be released in international cinemas, which was shot on the premises of the castle with stars such as Iwan Rheon and F. Murray Abraham.
In addition, the Salzburg Landestheater has been performing the play "Shakespeare in the Park" since summer 2014, in which visitors follow the actors through the castle park.
