A journey through the rural districts of Salzburg
What would Salzburg be without its beautiful nature, its breathtaking summits, the local culture customs and rituals, which have a century long history and make each district of Salzburg so special?
We invite to come along a cultural and culinary journey of the five different districts of Salzburg, the so called “Salzburger Gaue” at the open-air Museum at Großgmain, just 20 minutes outside the city of Salzburg. Here you will wander through picturesque ancient farmhouses, which have hosted many generations and get to know the daily lives of former times in the countryside.
With the museum train, you will get easily from district to district and can taste the local culinary specialties of each different province, such as meat-filled crullers from the Pongau, Cheese “Spätzle” from the Pinzgau or a local sweet dish called “Rahmkoch” from the Lungau.
After this culinary introduction, you also have the possibility to join a dancing lesson of local folk dances, including the popular “Salzburger Bandltanz”.
This active day comes to a relaxing end with a hearty dinner at the wooden barn with regional delicacies, Schnaps tasting and traditional Austrian music.
