Only 30 minutes away from the city of Salzburg, a unique adventure awaits you. The day at the salt mine begins with a mine train ride deep into the Dürrnberg. Via fast-paced wooden slides and mysterious tunnels, you descend into the heart of the mountain. A journey through time leads through four eras, from modern mining and salt production of the present, through the glorious Baroque period, into the dark Middle Ages and finally to the Celtic miners. The boat trip across the mystical salt lake takes you into the beautiful world of the baroque Salzburg. At the end of the trip, you will know why salt is considered the "essence of life". And quite incidentally, the only underground state border between Austria and Germany is crossed.

  • More about the importance of salt but also above days tells the Kelten.Erlebnis.Berg. The Celtic village SALINA and the new salt manufactory

SALT MANUFACTORY

  • Instead of the old "Solestube", a modern show saline was built at the Kelten.Erlebnis.Berg. Visitors can experience first-hand how the high-quality, hand-scooped BAD ISCHLER gourmet salt is produced from Dürrnberg's natural mine. The master salt maker on site explains the process and provides insights into his daily work.

CELTIC VILLAGE SALINA

  • Large parts of the Dürrnberg were already inhabited from 600 BC. The mining and trade of the "white gold" brought great prosperity to the Iron Age population. The reconstructed Celtic village SALINA  you will see and can touch gives an impression of how the Celts lived 2500 years ago. In close cooperation with the researchers of the Hallein Celtic Museum, the small village on the Dürrnberg was designed according to current scientific findings.
